Weight management
Appetite regulation
Improved health markers

Looking to feel lighter and healthier? Saxenda is your partner for sustained weight loss. It's a self-administered injectable prescription with the active ingredient liraglutide, similar to the natural hormone GLP-1. It aims to curb your cravings, manage hunger, and make weight loss easier.

Effective Weight Loss: Clinically proven to help people lose 9 - 20% of their weight, especially in tandem with a low-calorie diet and exercise.

Appetite Regulation: By mimicking the action of the GLP-1 hormone, Saxenda can decrease hunger pangs. This makes it easier to eat nutritious food while kicking cravings to the curb.

Improved Health Markers: Weight loss achieved with Saxenda can lead to improvements in general health markers including blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar levels. This can be beneficial for those with type 2 diabetes, or those at risk of developing it.

How to use

Important Considerations for Using Saxenda:

Your doctor will provide specific instructions tailored to your needs for using Saxenda. However, here's a general overview of how it's typically used:

  • Starting Low:  To minimise potential side effects like stomach upset, Saxenda is usually started at a low dose of 0.6mg daily.  This initial dose helps your body adjust to the medication before increasing for weight loss.
  • Gradual Increase: Over several weeks, your doctor may gradually increase the dosage by 0.6mg each week until reaching the recommended daily dose of 3.0mg. This slow progression allows your body to adapt comfortably to the medication.
  • Subcutaneous Injection: Saxenda is administered subcutaneously, meaning it's injected into the fatty tissue under the skin. Common injection sites include your abdomen, thigh, or upper arm. Regularly rotating these injection sites can minimise localised reactions and potential fat loss at any specific spot.
  • Flexibility and Routine: Saxenda injections offer flexibility as they can be taken at any time of day, regardless of meals. However, maintaining a consistent daily injection time can help establish a routine and ensure consistent medication use.
  • Missed Doses:  If you miss a dose, it's best to take it within the next 12 hours. If it's been more than 12 hours, simply skip the missed dose and resume your regular schedule the next day.
  • Pen Usage: Each Saxenda pen holds a specific number of doses. Once the pen is empty, dispose of it properly and begin using a new pen. It's crucial to follow your doctor's guidance for proper pen disposal.

Duration

  • Months 1-3: Focuses on craving control, improved eating habits, and reduced calorie intake, potentially leading to an initial metabolic boost.
  • Months 4-6: Aims for weight loss progress (around 5%) alongside better eating control, increased energy, and improved sleep.
  • Months 6-12+: Targets significant weight loss (9-20%) with potential improvements in blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol, promoting overall biometric health.

Side effects

Regular check-ins with your doctor are essential throughout your Saxenda treatment. These appointments allow your doctor to:

  • Track your progress: Monitor your weight loss progress and assess if Saxenda is working effectively for you.
  • Fine-tune your dose: Adjust your dosage as needed to optimise your weight loss journey.
  • Manage potential side effects: Discuss any side effects you may experience and develop strategies to manage them. Some common side effects include nausea, diarrhoea, and constipation.
